Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) is offered to non-Chinese speaking students who have no prior knowledge of the language and Chinese is not spoken at home. The Beginner Level (CSL 1 & 2) will focus on the basics of Mandarin pronunciation, beginner conversation, reading and writing Chinese characters. Chinese culture and customs will also be introduced. The Intermediate Level (CSL 3 & 4) continues to improve on communication skills through vocabulary building, reading and writing Chinese characters.
|For children 5 years and older and with no background in Chinese. Use “My First Chinese Word” textbook. Learn Pinyin romanization system, simplified Chinese characters, basic sentences, rudimentary dialogues, and characters writing.|
|For children 7 years and older and completed “My First Chinese Reader” Volume 1. Use “My First Chinese Reader” Volume 2. Students will build on what they have learned and move onto more extensive reading and writing. Students are also expected to apply what they learn to communicate better.|
|For children 7 years and older and completed My First Chinese Reader Volume 2. Use My First Chinese Reader Volume 3. Students will read, write up to 200 Chinese characters and will be able to use them in daily life. Students will learn simple sentence making, form questions and negative sentences. Will be placed in Standard Chinese class upon passing the final exam.|
|For children 8 years and older and completed “My First Chinese Reader Volume 3″. Use “My First Chinese Reader Volume 4″. Students will master 24 sentence patterns which puts them at the same level of the “Standard Chinese” Level 1, Volume 2. Will be placed in Standard Chinese class upon passing the final exam.|
